I have Windows Vista and NWN. I'm trying to use nwnx2 as I did before I had Vista. The window pops up, but the nwserver window never occurs.

On top of Vista, I also added a router, so I'm not sure my port number is right now either. Suggestions?

EDIT: Additional info - nwserver is showing the internal IP address and port 5121. Router has been configured to allow nwnx, nwserver and nwn access, and the ports that nwn uses have been opened. Server runs with a rare crash, sometimes after using the same computer to run DM Client.

OS is Vista Premium, 1.8 dual core intel, 4 gig of ram.

Quick option is to make sure you run all the .exe's in XP compatability mode (this usually gets around the 'run as Admin' requirement)

I thought I had done that, but I'll double check.

I have done that. Nothing.

I tried a different mod. Nothing.

Process watchdog light turns green and stays that way.

This might be a bit drastic - but it does work.

(re)Install NWN2 in a non 'Program Files' folder.
Install NWNX4 in a separate path to NWN2 (ie not in the NWN2 folder, or sub-folders).

This avoids any complications with the UAC and Admin mode.

This is for NWN using NWNX2.

Sorry...my mistake (on the NWN2)

But the same applies to all pre-Vista applications, keep them out of the 'Program Files' path, and you have fewer problems (especially with UAC & Admin issues)

NWN is not in the program files folder. I'll move nwnx2 out of the NWN folder and report back. Thanks.

Apparently no go. Both nwn and nwnx are in separate folders under c:

Nwserver still doesn't start.

Process watchdog keeps trying to restart.

NWNX2 needs to be in the same folder as NWN. You can only separate the directories with NWNX4...

I'm not entirely clear on the problem - your first post makes it sound like nwserver never starts, but then you say it runs fine with an occasional crash (unless you mean the host system itself, which would surprise me-- oh, wait, Vista. Wink).

Is madCHook.dll also in the directory with NWNX and nwserver?
This is 32-bit Vista, right? madCHook, therefore NWNX2, does not have support for 64-bit Windows.
If all else fails, I can make a debug version of NWNX2 with extra log messages for you.

<Fluffy-Kooshy> NWNx plugin is to this as nuclear warheads are to getting rid of fire ants.

<ThriWork> whenever I hear nwn extender, I think what does NWN need a penis extender for?

Nwserver will run using the nwserver.exe and runs fairly well.

Nwserver does not start when I start nwnx2.exe. The nwnx2 window appears, but the nwserver window does not.

I've moved the nwnx2 files back into the nwn folder.

Madchook.dll is now in the folder with both. It's 32 bit Vista. Unless it works now, I'd like a debug version. I'll report soon. Keep suggestions coming please.

I spoke too soon.

If the server does crash, Vista apparently looks for a fix and a window pops up that it's seeking a solution (probably contacting Microsoft online). At least some of the time that window gets held up and nwnx2 apparently will not reset the server until that window resolves.

Solutions? I'm thinking that this is a Vista problem now.

That's Vista (or any windows)
Change your settings for Auto-download of updates.
Usually this is not a problem, but the last round of updates required a reboot.
