Hello everyone, first I want to thank the Avlis team for putting NWNX together - it sounds like a great resource for the NWN community..
I am having some problems getting it to work at the moment and I was hoping you guys could shed some light on it for me. I am trying to setup a NWNX server with ODBC via SQLite for the time being.
I have read and reread the NWNX documentation. I downloaded NWNX 2.61 and installed the NWNX2.exe, NWNX.INI, nwnx-module.dll, and madCHook.dll in to my NWN root folder. I start NWNX.exe and the server windows pop up (NWNX monitor / NWNX server). I select the module I wish to load and set the all the options. NWNX server window says "Ready for login", everything appears normal...
I then start Neverwinter as normal and attempt to log in. I to the screen where it asks if you want to create a character or use a premade one. No matter what I click I cannot get passed the Loading Module splash screen to either create a new char or use an existing one. The log files show that I logged in as a Game Master etc., but the game does not finish loading and I cannot play.
Now the NWNX documentation does not say which .exe you start first, NWN or NWNX server. I am not sure if when I finish with everything in NWNX that it is supposed to start the game or what.. I assumed that NWNX would start the game and be ready to play, since it is supposed to do so after a server crash.

I have never heard of a problem like that before. You did nothing wrong as far as I can tell. First NWNX.EXE is started, and that in turn starts the nwserver.exe.
Did you try it with some other module (like aps_demo) ? Another idea would be to try it on another computer, if you have one available. _________________ Papillon |

Thanks for the reply Pap..
I have tried it with the aps_demo and it still hangs at the "Loading Module." screen...
Just so I have the procedure correct:
1. You start NWNX.exe, which in turn starts NWN Server (which mine does)..
2. Once both of those are up, you start Neverwinter Nights as you would normally, then click "Play"..
3. Select "Multiplayer", then "New Internet/LAN Game"..
4. Select "Other Modules", use the same module that you list in the NWNX.ini.. Select "Create New Character" or "Premade Character"
5. Module *should* start. and you able to select a character.. (mine hangs)
I am not sure what the sequence is for starting the game with NWNX running in the background... From the NWNX manual you would think NWNX would just start Neverwinter Nights once NWNX.exe / NWN server were up and running, but it doesn't..
*confused*

There is your problem.
The NWServer is handling the game, you DO NOT START ANOTHER MODULE.
Simply go into "Join Lan Game" and it should show up there......
You are trying to load the module twice |

Thanks for the reply Acrodania.. I did what you said, I was in fact trying to load the module twice (once with NWNX and then again with NWN).. I had never ran NWN server before so I was not aware that it just runs the server without a client interface.
So I tried what Acro had said, NWNX starts NWN Server just fine etc.. I then tried to join a LAN/Internet game on the same PC as NWNX was running, did not work. I went to another PC that has file sharing, same router etc., that I regularly play NWN LAN games on and with NWNX it does not work!
So I must have missed something.. I'll tear it all down and reinstall it, maybe it will work..

Are you selecting "Internet Game" or "Lan Game"?
If you are selecting "Internet Game" and finding your server in GameSpy then that is your problem now. You cannot join through GameSpy when both you and the server are behind the same firewall/router.
You should be going into the game via "Join Lan Game" or direct connecting to the INTERNAL IP address of the server (something like 192.168.1.XX)...

I assume when you say that "it works" you mean that the module loads up and the text along the bottom of the NWServer application says "Running"? If not the module isn't loading.... If the module isn't actually loading then do you have all the Haks and TLK files needed by the module in the correct folders? |
