|

Some time ago there were a hope that the excellent java-written autobic tool could have been ported as NWNX plugin for those who cant run java.
Any news on this?
C'mon guys, those features are exciting as much as storing objects onto the DB! |

Man, I really wish, but AFAIK none of us are planning to do that. There are plenty of other people out there looking to do NWNX projects, and I agree, this would be a good one. _________________ ____________________

Is the code of autobic available somewhere? If you point me out to the right direction I might have a look at this. |

At one point I ws actually thinking of doing just that as part of my help on the SCORCO plug-in. I just wasn't sure there was any interest in it. Since there is, I'll take a look at it again |

If you need a hand, just let me know. I think that porting that code will not be that difficult, although I have never seen it |

WOW! this is more of what i expected to read
Here is all the info i have. It seems its not being updated anymore, the Bioware guild is almost dead, since Red Golem, the author, retired from NWN gaming.
As u read on his server forums:
http://abyss404.d2g.com/forum_viewtopic.php?27.393
"2. document, Clean Up, Package, and Release the current (new and improved) version of Autobic.
[ Edited Sat Jul 10 2004, 01:28PM GMT ] "
Months ago I tested that tool and toyed with tails and wings hak paks as well, but my server admin completely refuse to install a java runtime, even if its just a damn runtime. I checked again as a good intent for new year and here i am.
The code is not bugged but it heavily uses 2da files and 1.64 cached them, so a little fix is needed. Some extensions are yet to be finished... my goal was to make a character customizer IN GAME, not just the subrace selection...
Docs:
http://web.mit.edu/andyman/Public/l404_installation.html
Files (i remember that the source code is included):
http://web.mit.edu/andyman/Public/l404_b7_quick.zip
http://web.mit.edu/andyman/Public/l404_b8_quick.zip
Note also that the 2da files used are old (1.61 is the last officially supported bioware patch). _________________ -Telstar

An option to the autobic is PrCs ConvoCC in-game character creator. It uses Leto Scripting to modify the BIC file after going through a conversation. where you choose all your feats, skills and so forth.
It pulls straight from the 2das, allowing custom races and classes, caches the information in the MySQL database to speed up the process for later and is simple to setup. It does NOT require the PrC; I have it running successfully with a test module running the FireFly haks. I just had to import one include file from the PrC, though I could have just duplicated the function.... |

Although the LETO script plugin can do many things that AutoBic can't, I find AutoBic to be more user-friendly and easy to install. It's also very easy to make new races for it, and you don't have to learn a new programming language (letoscript). Thought an easier to use and more friendly leto plugin would also be cool, especially if it came with a nice test mod that mimicked Red Golem's Character Creator NPC golem guy. _________________ ____________________
