NWNX2/NWN-FF Crash after Upgrade to Windows Server 2003 SP2

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this post. I posted this on the FastFrench forums, but I'm not sure if I'll get any response since the admin says they don't post in English and most might not speak any English. The other reason I'm posting here is that I believe that certain members of this forum community are familiar with NWN-FF or possibly even worked with the FastFrench team...and can hopefully help me resolve this issue.

I have tried everything I can think of before bugging you guys. I have researched as much as I can (documentation and forums), reinstalled just about everything, and tried every combination of settings in the nwn-FF.ini configuration file. The only thing I haven't done is a system restore (and hopefully won't have to).

I have been running NWN-FF for a long time, and have been very happy with it (no problems for over 2 years). About a week and a half ago I updated my Windows Server 2003 to SP2 (Service Pack 2). Immediately after that, the NWServer applet started crashing within a few minutes of loading. NOTHING else changed before that when it was working fine. I uninstalled SP2 and rebooted the server, but I still had the same exact problem. Here is what I'm running:

- NWN-FF 4.1.0 (I have recopied all the important files to NWN folder)
- MySQL 4.1 (I am using the libmySQL.dll from the mysql/bin folder, copied to the NWN folder)
- mysqld-nt.exe set as service (automatic start)

I tried disabling speech, but that didn't seem to make any difference at all. However, that thread pointed me to a very handy utility called Dependency Walker. The link didn't work (evidently their website is defunct or simply down right now), but I searched and finally found the links to the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on Microsoft's website (given below).

So then I used it to profile nwn-mysql.exe and here are the results. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what I'm looking at. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry this is quite a long post, and this isn't even all of the info I obtained from the profile session. I can provide the full results to anyone that wishes to see exactly what I get when profiling (readable by the Dependency Walker utility).

It has an error opening the following files:

• MSJAVA.DLL - Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified (2).
  Researching this, it seems like it should not be necessary. Dependency Walker FAQ (cached since their website isn't working) has this to say:
  The MSHTML.DLL module that was released with Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1 has a delay-load dependency on MSJAVA.DLL. Missing delay-load dependencies are not a problem as long as the calling DLL is prepared to handle the missing module. Dependency Walker flags all potential problems as it cannot detect if an application intends to handle the issue. In this particular case, MSJAVA.DLL is an optional module, and MSHTML.DLL is prepared to handle it. This warning can be ignored.
  
• DAGC.DLL - Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified (2).
  Researching this, it seems like it should not be necessary as long as nwn-mysql.exe is prepared to handle it. I believe it was for cards that a member of the WinPCap team was using at one time, but do not support any longer.
  
• MFC42LOC.DLL - Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified (2).
  Researching this, it seems like nwn-mysql.exe (or whatever else in FF that calls it) will default to another language and won't need it necessarily. I see Latin in some of the database tables...so perhaps that's what it will default back to?
  
• NPF.SYS - Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified (3).
  The file is there where it's supposed to be (c:\windows\system32\drivers) and I even added the path to the Path environment for the server, but it continues to flag it with this error.

Dependency Walker marks this one red, just below the DLL modules that failed to load (those noted above):

C:\windows\system32\npp\NDISNPP.DLL

Here's what Dependency Walker shows for this type of error flagged:

Dynamic module warning. This module is either missing one or more export functions that the parent module attempted to retrieve using GetProcAddress, is of the wrong CPU type, or failed to initialize when being loaded. For a missing export, the Parent Import Function List View will list the actual functions that the parent module could not locate. For dynamic dependencies, this is usually just a warning, since it is perfectly valid for a module to dynamically check for the existence of a function in another module, even if the function does not exist. If the module failed to load or initialized, then check the Log View for details on the failure.

Unresolved dynamic C function (similar images also exist for C++ and ordinal functions). The parent module of this module called the GetProcAddress function to dynamically get the address of this function, but the current module does not export the function. This is not necessarily an error since one of the reasons modules call GetProcAddress is to see if a function exists in a module.

Here are the log messages specific to this NDISNPP.DLL module:

I can not really comment on FastFrench's NWNX fork, but something strikes me as odd:

* NWNX_MYSQL.dll skipped: this NWN-FF main dll has allready MySQL DataBase build-in support

And still it does crash in exactly this DLL ? Maybe you should remove it altogether from your system and see what happens then ?

Btw, this thread is a little hard to read with all the log files above. Could you please reduce their size a little ? I think most parts are not relevant to this problem. Thanks.

I removed most of the logs. I only posted them in their entirety figuring that anyone trying to follow the DLL profiling would find that helpful. Anyway, I tried removing the 3 DLLs noted as being skipped, and it didn't make any difference.

I just noticed that the crash occurs in NWN-MySQL.dll, while the skipped DLL was called NWNX-MySQL.dll. So no wonder this did not change anything.
