Quote: | Thank you for using MySQL. I would like to get in contact with you to
find out how you are using our software. Many clients using our software
in an enterprise environment take advantage of our MySQL Enterprise
offering. MySQL Enterprise includes the most comprehensive offering of
MySQL database software, services and production support to ensure your
business achieves the highest levels of reliability, security and
uptime. Depending on your MySQL usage you may also be in need of licensing.
Send me a quick note so I can determine how I can help with your
specific MySQL applications. I look forward to hearing back from you at your
soonest convenience.
Thanks,

Is this guy for real or is just a cleverly hidden spam mail? I don't even know why he sent me this - I don't even run a server using MySQL right now.
Is this natural? >.> |

it is normal, because mysql have 2 server type:
1) MySQL Community Server (free)
2) MySQL Enterprise (not free : Starting at $595/server/year )
go here http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html for see difference.
If you use the second...and you dont have paid then you are pirate. |

So wait, I'm a pirate if I'm not using the paid one?
Then what's the point of the free version?
EDIT: Sorry, I read that wrong. I see what you mean.
But I'm using the community version - why are they contacting me? |

It depends on in which way you are using it. It is not allowed to use it in commercial matter, where you sell the service to others. So don't worry if you just use it for your game server. |

It's nothing to worry about. Somewhere on their site you entered your e-mail address, and since they are a pay-for product they aren't going to just discard it. The guy who contacted you is from their "Leads Development" department. Basically his job is to find people who are using their product, want to use their product, or might benefit from their product and pass that info along to someone who can actually sell their product. |

Hey, this is Kenji Hyde. I am that leads development rep that sent you that email. We do have the free community version for people to use. As a leads dev rep we receive our leads via our website. You obviously registered your email with our site either through a download of our product or a white paper download or something else. Hence the reason why you received my email. We do also have a paid version. This paid version is more for companies using our product that want a certified and fully supported edition of our software. It's my job to go through all of the leads to find those that could benefit from our Enterprise (paid) edition. FYI, for all you gamers looking to run a MySQL server, you don't have to register on our site when you download it. When you get to the page that says "new users" or "returning users", at the bottom there's the option that says "no thanks, just take me to the downloads". |
